Grow Montana is sponsoring the following bills in the 2021 legislative session:

State Soil Health Study Bill: to designate an interim committee to study the viability of a comprehensive soil health program in the State of Montana. The study bill will help guide and educate the interim committee on soil health so then they can develop policy recommendations down the road.

Farm to School Bill: The Farm to School Pilot Grant program, to be administered by Montana Office of Public Instruction, provides schools with a funding incentive to purchase Montana grown or raised foods for school nutrition programs and assesses the impact of this incentive program.

Grow Montana will be supporting and advocating for the following bills in the 2021 legislative session:

Double SNAP Dollars (DSD)Bill: Montana Food Bank Network is sponsoring this bill that will ask for a State investment that would provide stability for current DSD sites and allow the program to grow to new communities. Appropriation for this program through Montana state funds would allow us to better leverage federal funding for nutrition incentives resulting in:

  • Improved food security for vulnerable families o Improved health outcomes
  • Increased revenue for Montana farmers

The DSD Bill was first introduced in the 2019 legislative session.

Country Of Origin Labeling (COOL) Bill: Montana Farmers Union is sponsoring a placarding bill on Country-of-Origin Labeling in the 2021 Legislative Session.
