How To Get Involved

Find Session Information

Bills, both introduced and drafts, can be found using the Montana Legislature Bill Look Up Information Tool. Bills can be looked up by type, number, draft number, legislator, or subject. Additional session information, including calendars, committees, and agendas, can be found HERE. Many of the hearings are available to watch and listen to through remote streaming. To access live hearings, visit THIS LINK.

Submit Public Comment

There is a new system for leaving messages to legislators this year that requires citizens to create an account. You’ll need to go to legmt.gov/participate. Be sure to enter in your email address and press verify to get a confirmation code.

Note: you will not be able to proceed forward in the form if you do not complete this first step.

If you would like to provide written public testimony on any bills you can do so HERE. Below is a recap of bills from the first week that Grow Montana is supporting and watching, as well as opportunities for action.

Call the Capitol Switchboard at 406-444-4800

The switchboard is open 7 AM to 5:30 PM M-F.

When calling, state your name, where you are located, and ask to speak to your representative. The operator will connect you to your representative’s messaging service where you can provide your request or input on a particular bill or issue.

Testify Virtually

To testify virtually, go to legmt.gov/participate. Like submitting a public comment, you will need to create an account first and verify your email.

You will be able to register to testify up two hours before the hearing. Some hearings begin as early as 8:00 AM, so the deadline for those hearings is 6:00AM.

TIPS FOR EFFECTIVELY CONTACTING A LEGISLATOR

Legislators are publicly elected officials. Communications with Legislators involving legislative business may be subject to the Right to Know provisions of Montana’s Constitution and may be considered a “public record” pursuant to Montana law. As such, email sent or received, its sender and receiver, and the email’s contents and attachments, may be subject to public disclosure, except as otherwise provided by Montana law.
